PTFC
Peters Township Fencing Club (PTFC) is open to students in grades 6-12, but only those in grades 9-12 may compete in the PIFA Foil and Epee competitions. Fencing is a recreational swordplay sport in which fencers learn to hone their strategies against opponents of varying skill levels, and build up physical endurance, agility, and accuracy. Fencing can be a lifelong sport and it also can open up the possibility of potential college scholarships. The goal of PTFC is to promote the sport of fencing and to build a strong team with skilled fencers who are intellectually and physically fit. All students will learn proper fencing etiquette, competition rules, and classic fighting techniques. Beginners and intermediate fencers are welcome. Training in both foil and epee will be offered.
PTFC practices Wednesday from 3:15 - 5:15 pm at PTHS for the entire school year, September thru May. Our coaches are Elmira Ioultchieva and Tim Yultchiev, click on Tiger Fencing Club above for more information regarding our coaches. PTFC will compete in team events. Foil competitions are January thru March and Epee competitions are in May. Competitions are Friday evening at various high schools in the surrounding Pittsburgh area, and students are responsible for their own transportation. PT may host one or more of the competitions at the high school, so fencers are required to help setup the fencing strips and parent involvement is needed for concessions.
There is a $75 monthly fee to pay for coaches. Fencers can also belong to Tiger Fencing Club, a private fencing club run by our coaches, for a combined monthly fee. See Tim or Elmira for details. Fencers are required to complete and turn in 6 forms (PTFC Code of Conduct, PTFC Liability and Medical Consent, Section 6 Health History, Section 7 PIAA Physical Form, PTSD Concussion Form, and PTSD Cardiac Arrest Form) and become a member of USA Fencing (USFA), click on Forms above.
New fencers can borrow equipment from the coaches for 2 practices, and then must decide if they would like to continue. If a fencer chooses to continue all 6 forms mentioned above are due along with a digital copy of the USA Fencing membership card, and parents need to come to practice to discuss with Tim purchasing equipment. Click on Equipment above for more information.
